Parent involvement is encouraged and welcomed at J. Mason Tomlin.
The J. Mason Tomlin PTO is an organization that prides itself
on parents and teachers working together to help meet the needs
of our children. Some additional active roles parents play include
helping out in the classroom or library as an aide, volunteering
as a room parent, or chaperoning a class trip.
Academically we have a strong and challenging curriculum. A review
of specific curricula and textbooks is completed every five years.
Standardized tests are used to identify student growth, strengths,
and weaknesses. Many incentive programs are in place to recognize
student growth and achievement. Supplemental programs such as
art, music, library, and physical education are implemented as
a part of the daily schedule to help balance the vigorous academic
demands. Speech, basic skills, enrichment classes, Spanish, computer
education, extensive special education services, a guidance office,
and career education are examples of programs that enhance and
assist students in attaining the academic and social expectations
set forth by the Mantua Township Board of Education.
Please feel free to call the school for additional information
or a tour of the facility.

J. Mason Tomlin School is one of three elementary schools in
Mantua Township. The school houses a regular kindergarten through
sixth grade population of approximately 650 students. Although
each of the district’s schools have grades Kindergarten
to fourth grade, the J. Mason Tomlin School provides instructional
programs for all the district’s fifth and sixth grade students.
Our school curriculum includes programs in art, music, library,
physical education, computer education, Spanish, speech, guidance,
basic skills instruction, and enrichment. Each of these special
areas are taught by a certified teacher holding the appropriate
teaching certification. Our fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students
also have the opportunity to become involved with instrumental
music, choir, band, and student council. After school intramurals
are also available for interested fifth and sixth students. Other
exciting activities that take place each year are the art show,
curriculum fair, field day and school play.
With regard to our school facility, the Sewell School has internet
connections in each classroom which are connected to a Local Area
Network. The Local Area Network is supported by a fiber optic
connection which provides for the fastest possible communications
both within and outside the school building. The school highlights
a state of the art computer lab, a modern media center, full size
gymnasium-cafeteria and a well equipped playground. J. Mason Tomlin
is also fully air-conditioned which provides the best possible
learning environment.
